About Me

Zimbabwean poet, Batsirai E Chigama is a name largely associated with spoken word. Her work is featured in several poetry anthologies in USA, England, Italy, New Zealand & Zimbabwe. In 2012 Batsirai became the first Zimbabwean to take part in the Italian Nosside World Poetry competition for which she was awarded a medal and her poem “Ivhu” was featured in the 2012 Nosside Poetry anthology. She has traveled to participate in a number of festivals in the region: Arts Alive (SA), SADC Poetry Festival (Botswana), Blantyre Arts Festival(Mal), Tambo Tambulani Tambo(Moz), Poetry Africa and a host of other local festivals.  She has toured Denmark and Italy, facilitating workshops as well as performing.

In 2013, she collaborated with the  veteran Scottish poet, Sheila Templeton for an exhibition ‘After Livingstone’ at the StaNza Poetry Festival, Scotland.  Some of her recorded works are featured on Badilisha Poetry X-Change(Capetown)  and Indiefeed (USA)  poetry portals. In 2013, some of Batsirai’s poetry was featured on the Poetry International Website alongside other five Zimbabwe women poets.

She was appointed the Woman Scream coordinator for Zimbabwe, 2014-2015.

A published short story writer, Batsirai dedicates some of her time to write on the arts and culture in Zimbabwe for the local website Zimbo Jam. She says she would like to lend her voice to the women whose voices are silenced the world over.
